      * The new min/max of an axis must include the previous default location. This is referred to in fonttools as L3 instancing. Changing the default location for an axis is referred to as L4 instancing, which isn’t yet supported in fonttools. More info here: github.com/fonttools/fonttools/issues/1537#issuecomment-474983825
