hw_beat_that Adobe Microsoft roboFontEditor FontForge Nice thread! It might be worth making a distinction between design format vs compiled format. UFO is used only in the design process & must be compiled into OTF, TTF, WOFF, etc to install. Other design formats are FOG, VFB, GLYPHS… but all of these are closed formats, unlike UFO

hw_beat_that Adobe Microsoft roboFontEditor FontForge You might also be interested in this talk on progressive font enhancement from last week at ATypI Tokyo: events.atypi.org/atypi-tokyo-2019/talk/state-progressive-font-enrichment (Video should be posted soon) WOFF3 will likely include something like this. Still SFNT based, I think, but compressed like WOFF2 and streamable!
